Kazakhstan continues to introduce women-only carriages on local train routes. The press service of the national Passenger Transportation company reported.
The national railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is launching a women’s carriage on Uralsk — Mangistau route from June 1.
«These carriages are staffed exclusively by female conductors. Boys up to the age of seven are allowed to travel in the women-only carriages,» the statement reads.
Women-only carriages were introduced in Kazakhstan following incidents of harassment and rape on trains, particularly after a high-profile case of rape of a passenger on Tulpar — Talgo train in 2018.
Currently, there are 12 women-only carriages across 12 different routes in the country.
