MP Dastan Bekeshev asked at a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration to provide information on the arrest of teacher Azamat Nurmatov, and reasons for his detention.
«Wherever our citizens are, we must protect their rights,» Dastan Bekeshev added.
As Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev said, after the teacher’s arrest, the Foreign Ministry employees immediately contacted law enforcement agencies of Turkey.
«According to available information, in 2016-2017, when there was an attempted coup in Turkey, Azamat Nurmatov lived there in a dormitory and used a mobile application used by supporters of Fethullah Gulen. He was put on the wanted list in Turkey and that is why he was detained,» he added.
He noted that this issue is under control, the Foreign Ministry is in touch with Nurmatov’s lawyer and relatives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the detention of a teacher from Kyrgyzstan in Turkey.
